Post mortem: Workshops and certain sharings were conducted in Tagalog Youth were unclear of which workshops to attend (last minute registration) A lot of free time in the morning, though the youth were asked to participate in games as audience Hosting by local families were excellent. Praise and worship was good. Food was definitely excellent. Objective: Our youth were exposed to other youths from other regions and has maintain a good and close relationship via internet. They have learnt so much about dedicating their lives to God.	-	5
11-13 June	YFC Discovery Camp, Amazing Grace, Penampang	Though it was the 1^st time in YFC KK that the Discovery Camp was done, the speakers has managed to deliver the message to the youths. There were 3 workshops ie Band/Music/Dancing, Phtography/Art/Event Management and Acting. Post mortem: Logistics of having this Camp was difficult due to the Pure Party that needs a hall and allows to play music until 11.00 pm Talents were noted during their presentation on Friday night Team work amongst the working committee was excellent. Though the camp was planned with very tight schedules, thanks to the Team Leaders of Humanson and Jody ,who made sure that all events were done according to the time that was allotted.	30	23

YFC-KFC Gathering

Date: 29th March 2009
Venue: Tanjung Aru; Beach 1

A tiring yet fun-full day at the beach really bonds the relationship between youths. It also bonds youths to parents who attended there. Overall, it was a successful gathering. Although the weather was really hot, we managed to have a great time. Some also tried to hide from the sun by sitting in the tent provided. A great time! Looking forward for the next gathering!

Friday, November 23, 2007, a motley crowd of 31 members of Couples for Christ, led by its Unit Head Mr Gerard Yee and the expedition co-ordinator Mr. Aloysius Pianzin, left for the National Park at Kundasang in preparation for the assault of Southeast Asia’s highest peak.

The participants were housed at the Summit Lodge, Peak Lodge 1, Peak Lodge 2 and Peak Lodge 3.

Dinner at 7.30 in the evening was a potluck contribution by members of the entourage, followed by fellowship banter before retiring to bed.

Saturday morning, 24 November, all were geared up for the climb. Before being bussed to Timpohon Gate for the ascent, Gerard Yee summoned everyone for prayer of thanksgiving and invocation of protection and safety of the participants. We were indeed blessed with clear sky and sunny day!

CFC THEME FOR 2008

Dear CFC Brethren:

We are pleased to announce our theme for 2008:

“Love one another as I have loved you.” John 13:34-35

The full text of the Bible verse is: “I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

As we eagerly move on in our mission and face the challenges of the coming year, the Lord is telling us to love especially those who journey with us in our faith-walk.

This is a clear clarion call for all of us. In the face of our trials and difficulties, we are to respond as Jesus would, to love as He does. Love conquers all and forgives all.

The weekend retreats the first of which is scheduled in early February 2008, will be called the “Disciples Weekend.” To be a disciple requires a great deal of loving. This we commit to do. As Christ’s disciples, we look to the next year with joy and hope and with great anticipation not only to do his work, but also to love His people.

God bless us all.

New Year's Message from the CFC International Council

We are starting a new year, a real blessing from God. And we do so filled with awe, with thanksgiving and hope. We are privileged to have experienced God’s love, power and majesty first hand last year.

We thank the Lord for all that we went through in 2007 – for the victories, and even for the lamentations, the pain and the hurts. For in God, everything has a time and a purpose. His amazing grace has allowed us to get through the struggles, and in spite of our imperfections, to emerge a person and community more strongly anchored on the Lord, better equipped and poised for the mission.

We face 2008 with great hope, hope for a future that will be lived more fully in His love. As we thank the Lord and hope in Him, we also thank all of you who shared in the struggles and who stood firm and steadfast for CFC. We thank you for your friendship and love, for your trust and support, especially as we journey during the darkness of night.

We shall gather strength from the Lord and from each other and move in greater unity to respond more fully to the unchanging call of the Lord for us to be families in the Holy Spirit renewing the face of the earth.

A blessed 2008 lived in the fullness of God’s love and truly COUPLES FOR CHRIST!

Household - 5th Apr 09 - report:

We were challenged to have conviction like that of Daniel, and to stand up for God even if it means standing alone.

Daniel believed in God’s great love. He knew God would never leave him. This led him to a deep, deep love for God as well. It was from this love that Daniel was able to sum up the courage to serve God, even if it meant having to stand-alone--even when it meant risking his life.

Very few of us will have the chance to stand up for God to the point of death. It would be great to believe that like Daniel, we will stand courageous and risk our lives out of our love for him. But we don’t have to wait for somebody to throw us into a lion’s den or point a gun at us to prove our love for God. Although we may not be fully aware of them, we face our “lion’s dens” everyday of our lives.

DARE TO BE DANIEL
Daniel has shown us a great example of faithfulness and courage. God saw these and rewarded him greatly. We too could be like Daniel, courageous enough to stand up for Jesus and faithful enough to make it last. And surely, if we become like Daniel our efforts here in YFC will be greatly rewarded.

God Will Meet You Where You Are
(You Can Make Your Life Beautiful)

I've struggled (and got scared) with my school subjects, especially when examination time comes. Not just the quizzes. But the real big ones, the mid-terms and finals, for example.
Those are the times that I feel I am being reminded how ignorant I really am. You see I love listening to my brilliant teachers speaking high-tech and big words, yet I can't make heads or tails of what they are saying.

But I guess it's not just for me. I can't write straight with, big, heavy-duty words, quoting stuff from the lecture notes I gathered.

That work for me just a little bit less difficult than doing my Maths. But I recall one time when I took a shot at it. I started pounding on the keyboard and came out with pure gibberish (high-sounding words for me).

Ugh... It was pure torture. I can't seem to really understand what I am studying.

But in all this, I've learned something quite glorious;

God is flexible.
He is made of rubber.
He can stoop down to hollow, lazy brains like mine.
And He can also meet the best and the sharpest minds of the teachers who make my life as a student barely tolerable. And still win.
He can be wise to the wise. And simple to the simple.

I've realized that God will meet us where we are.

He can be very tender to you if you need an embrace.
He can be firm to you if you need some spanking.
He can be terribly awesome when you need a miracle.
He can be painfully quiet when He wants you to trust Him.

He will be what you need him to be.
(Note: Not "want" Him to be. I said, "need" Him to be.)

Question: What do you really need right now?
Believe me
He knows about it more than you do.
So let Him meet you where you are. And let Him love you, right there.

Could you relate with the struggle being experienced by the sharer? How?
What do you really need right now? Think about anything that you need.
What do you need God to be right now for you? Why?

The Solitary Life

Jesus was born of Jewish parents in an obscure village.

The child of a peasant woman, he grew up in another obscure village.
He worked in a carpenter's shop until he was thirty.
For three years he became an itinerant preacher.
He never held office.
He never owned a home.
He never had a family.
He never went to college.
He never put his foot inside a big city.
He never traveled more than 200 miles from the place where he was born.
He never did any of those things which usually accompanied greatness.

While still a young man, the tide of popular opinion turned against him.

His friends ran away.
His friends turned over to his enemies
He went through the mockery of a trial
He was Scourged and crucified.
His executioners gambled for the piece of property he had - his coat.
When he was dead, he was taken down and laid in a borrowed grave through the pity of a friend.

Twenty wide centuries have come and gone.

Today he is the centerpiece of much of the human race.
All the armies that have eevr marched,
all the navies that were ever built,
all the parliaments that ever sat,
all the kings that ever reign put together
have not affected the life of a man upon this earth
as powerfully as this ONE SOLITARY LIFE.

Think about your life now. How is your life different with that of Jesus? How is it similar?
How would you describe your relationship with Jesus now? Compare your relationship with Jesus with how you relate with your parents and siblings.

We'd just had our youth camp last weekend, and it had been so much fun ! The people are great! The music was great! The venue was beautiful! The activities were rocking! The fellowship was Awesome! The talks were inspirational. The testimonies and sharing were touching! The reflection was relaxing. The praying over was indescribable! Overall, the camp was A Turning Point! Anointing in Worship

Zec 4:14 So he said, "These are the two who are anointed to serve the Lord of all the earth."

To lead worship in any church is one of the most difficult things to do, because not only do we have a responsibility to the church and church leadership to carry out the duties involved, but we have a greater responsibility before the Lord as we lead people into his presence through music and song. The verse from Zechariah is an interesting one because the translation and meaning of the word anointed means "shining one".

The question of anointing in worship to some people can be answered in this way, you either have it or you don't! And sometimes anointing comes upon somebody when they haven't realised it, but members of their congregation have. But let's go back to our question of anointing in worship and in particular for worship leaders. I fervently believe that in today's church worship Leaders need to seek the anointing of God on their ministry, and to be as it were "shining ones" for the Lord.

At the beginning of every meeting in our church, we try to get together as a worship team and pray for God's anointing on our ministry, and that we would be open to the move of the Holy Spirit within our midst. Do you have the anointing of God on your ministry, or if you are a member of the congregation do you see the anointing of God on your worship leaders, and if they have, do you tell them! The Worship Leader who is truly anointed, takes the congregation into the presence of God and you can't get any better than that, because that is what the Lord is seeking.

The Church who have a anointed worship leader and who is seen to be anointed have a real gem in their midst, and the leadership of that church should encourage that anointing to grow.

I went to a seminar once on worship and the speaker put forward the argument that if a worship leader did not have the anointing to lead worship, should they be leading worship at all. Because as sometimes is the case people are asked to get involved in worship because they are musically gifted, and without them the Church would have no music at all. As we all know there are always two sides to an argument, and those who are often found to be in that situation, are often in faith for that anointing to come upon their ministry. Just because someone may not have the anointing at this present moment in time, doesn't mean that they are not seeking it.

As Worship Leaders let's encourage one another to continually seek the anointing of God on our lives and ministry so that we should honour him with the gifts he has given us

Leading into Worship

How does a worship leader lead people into worship?

Why is it that in some meetings the worship just flows and at other times the phrase 'You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink' seems to echo inside the worship leader's brain? I am afraid that I don't have any quick and easy answers but here are what I consider to be some of the requirements for leading God's people in worship.

Prepared

The worship leader must be prepared. Perhaps that sounds obvious but I'm sure I'm not the only person who has rushed into a meeting desperately trying to think of an opening chorus and hoping that, while we're singing this half a dozen times, I'll come up with some more choruses. Freedom in worship doesn't mean that we turn up and see what happens. Yes, it is important that the Holy Spirit is in charge of the worship but the Holy Spirit will work with us in preparation for the meeting as well as in the meeting itself. Having said this we must, of course, be open to His leading during the meeting and be prepared to move away from what we have chosen if the Holy Spirit so leads.

Prayerful

The preparation of the worship leader must go beyond picking the choruses and deciding on the order in which they are to be sung. The worship leader must spend time with God, talking to Him about the worship, listening to God's voice and, of course, worshipping. A worship leader needs God's anointing on his or her ministry. Anyone can flick through a chorus book or a box of acetates and pick a few songs but, without the Holy Spirit's anointing, this will not lead to worship. The anointing will come upon us as worship leaders as we spend time in His presence and receive from Him all that He has for us. God has given us the ministry of leading His people into worship but we can not do it in our own strength or by our own abilities; it is only as we hand back that ministry to Him that He can fully use us as channels for His purposes and to the glory of His Name.

Part of a team

This may be only you and one other singer or musician, it may be a number of musicians and singers (although it's best to avoid having more people out the front in the worship team than are left in the rest of the congregation!). Don't forget to include in the team the person who puts the acetates on to the projector. They have a thankless task; nobody notices until they get it wrong and that's often the fault of the worship leader. The members of the team must practice together but, more importantly, they must pray and worship together.

Protected

Satan hates it when God's people worship and he will seek to disrupt the worship in whatever way he can. It is essential that the worship leader and other members of the team are protected, not only in the meeting but also before the meeting and during preparation. You can and must pray for each other but it is good to get specific people from outside the worship team to pray for you. Keep them informed of practice sessions and other times when covering prayer is particularly needed.

Servant heart

The worship team is there to serve the rest of the church, not to dominate them. The worship leader is there to serve the worship team and the rest of the church. Avoid chorus marathons (as an antidote to hymn sandwiches) and leave time for free worship, but the worship leader and his team will need to lead in this, particularly if your congregation is not used to this type of worship. It is wonderful to have all the correct notes, some nice 'fiddly bits', four-part harmony etc. but, most importantly, the worship team should be seen to be worshipping and praising God. Above all else, a worship leader must be a worshipper. Like the Biblical shepherd a leader must lead from the front and so can not lead others where he has not already been. Having read this, please don't think that I always get it right. In fact, preparing this has caused me to think about my ministry as worship leader and made me realise that there are things that I need to change. I pray that within this article there are thoughts and ideas which will enable you to develop your worship ministry and that, through this, God will be glorified.

The Worship Leader

The position of a worship leader is first and foremost as a servant. The worship leader serves the people into the presence of God.

What does it mean to serve people? To genuinely serve people, your focus should not be the people, but God. There is a very subtle trap in ministry, which says that to serve people, you have to be listen to their desires, concerns, and so on. True ministry does not work this way. True ministry is completely God focused, because it is only when you are focused upon Him will you have true perspective . To truly serve people is to give them what God has for them, and to lead them to the point where they can hear and operate in God for themselves. When the Israelites were led through the desert, only Moses was listening to God. The desires of the people were to go back into slavery, where they felt they would be better off. Moses, however, was listening to God, and he truly served the people by not reacting to their opinions, but to what God had said to him.

The worship leader has to know the way into God's presence better than anyone else. This means that being a worship leader is not a Sunday job, it is an every day job. A worship leader trains every day by seeking God and spending time in His presence, worshiping and glorifying Him. When it is time to lead others to that same place, the way is easy, because the worship leader already knows what God is doing, what He is saying and what He is releasing. An obvious analogy is a mountain. The worship leader's role is to lead people up the mountain. He can only do this if he knows the way up the mountain better than anyone else. In the last few years, God has had me climbing up the hills and mountains of Cheshire and North Wales, so that I know the way up those places better than anyone. I spend time at the top worshiping, but it is in the climbing of the mountain that I get real revelation, and that I get my training.

A worship leader has to be put aside for God alone, he is to be the virgin bride that God is longing for in His people. Who can ascend the hill of the Lord? - only him with clean hands and a pure heart.

What about the musical skills of a worship leader? Firstly, to worship God you do not need to be a musician. Some of the most anointed worshipers I know can't sing or play a note. I have had worshipers in the worship team who are completely devoid of musical skill, the reason I have had them in the team is because their hearts were so right before God, that they could lead worship by simply speaking or crying out to God. I would rather be led into worship by a tone deaf person who knows and loves their God than by the best musician in the world who has the wrong heart. I am constantly meeting people who think that they cannot worship because they cannot sing. Let me set the record straight - worship and music are not necessarily the same thing. I have heard good music in church that mentions Jesus, but in nothing to do with worship. I have also heard some of the most anointed worship coming from the mouth of someone shouting out their praise to God.

Why then do we use music in our worship? Music is used simply as an expression of what is in our hearts. One of the reasons that the heart of a worshiper is so important, is that it is expressed in the music he might play. A heart full of worship to his God, will express that worship as the worship leader plays. Music is used in worship leading because it has an ability to create a corporate anointing that other expressions of worship (such as dance, words etc.) can not do in the same way. A worship leader can create true worship, and lead others in the direction that he is going by using music as a tool to set the direction and flow. Music in worship creates a clear direction and anointing in the worship.

If music is used to lead and express our worship, how important is it to be good musicians? Years ago, when I led worship, it was the only time in the week that I actually picked up a musical instrument. Quite frankly, I couldn't be bothered to play in the week. My musical equipment stayed in the church all week, and I picked it up just before the service on a Sunday. I was a talented musician, I knew it, and so I thought that I did not have to practice. After this being my attitude for a number of years, God began to talk to me. He told me that He wanted me to be the best, and the only way that this was going to happen was to practice, and practice hard. I began studying music like I never had before. I spent every night practicing scales and learning theory. I knew that I had to become an absolute master of music, so that music was completely my servant, that I could use and manipulate it to express what the Holy Spirit was doing. I took a diploma in music. When I was studying for this, my teacher told me that I would easily pass the exam. However, I was not satisfied with, I didn't just want to pass, I wanted to get the highest mark. God had put a determination in me to go beyond the mundane and the average into the best. I passed the exam with a distinction, purely because I put in the extra hours and the extra effort to get the distinction. It is worthwhile if a worship leader can spend time on different instruments, to understand the effect each one has, and how it can be used to serve the worship. A worship leader's responsibility is not to do all the worship leading, but to release others in his team and in the church to worship. He stands with the other members of his time to see them released into what God would have for them. He must also be prepared whilst leading worship to allow worship to flow out of other people, whilst all the time being clear on the direction God is moving, and allowing God to move freely in the service. To sum up in the same we we started, a worship leader has to be completely focused and submitted to God.
